This cute lion dance head looks complicated but is actually quite simple and easy to do. I used 4 ply cotton yarn, fluffy yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. You can use other type of cotton yarn and hook size. The head will turn out either slightly bigger or smaller. You will also need some stuffing.

Nose - make 2 - use the same color as the head
1) Start with a magic circle / ring. Make 6 single crochet (sc) into the ring [total 6]
2) Sc all around [total 6]. Slip stitch to the next stitch, fasten it, leave a tail for sewing and cut yarn.
Sew some golden thread around the nose (optional)
Horn - use the same color as the head
1) Start with a magic circle / ring. Do 6 sc into the ring. [total 6]
2) Sc all around [total 6]
3) (Sc, do 2 sc into the same stitch in the next (inc)) - 3X [total 9]
4) - 5) Sc all around [total 9]
Sew some golden threads around the horn (optional)
Eyes
1) Use black or dark brown yarn. Start with a magic circle / ring. Do 8 sc into the ring [total 8]
2) Inc all aroud [total 10]
3) Chain 1, turn the work. (Sc, inc) - 5X [total 15]
4) Fasten off, leave a long tail and cut the yarn.
5) Use light blue yarn do slip stitch around the curve edge and cut the yarn. (Refer to video)
6) Use white yarn, do a row of slip stitch under the row of blue slip stitch and cut the yarn.
7) Use yellow yarn and do a row of slip stitch under the row of white slip stitch and cut the yarn.
8) Use red yarn and do a row of slip stitch under the row of yellow slip stitch and cut the yarn.
Eye lashes
Use either fluffy yarn or velvet yarn that is white in color. Chain 9, then chain 3 and do double crochet (dc) in the next 2, half double crochet (hdc) in the next 3, and sc in the next 2 and slip stitch on the last stitch and fasten.
Mustache
Use either fluffy yarn or velvet yarn that is white in color. Chain 18, then chain 3. Do dc in the next 2, hdc in the next 3, sc in the next 2, slip stitch in the next 2, sc in the next 2, hdc in the next 3, dc in the next 2. Fasten off and cut yarn.
Ear - use the same color as the head
1) Start with a magic circle / ring. Do 6 sc into ring [total 6]
2) (3 sc in the same stitch, sc) - 3X [total 12] Slip stitch to the next, fasten off and leave some tail for sewing before cutting.
3) Use white fluffy yarn or velvet yarn, sc about 3/4 of the edge. (refer to video).
Jaw / teeth
1) Use the same color as the head. Chain 15. Chain 1, turn the work. Sc next 2, hdc next 2, dc next 7, hdc next 2, sc next 2, slip stitch to the next and leave a long tail for sewing and cut yarn.
2) Get some white yarn. from the 5th stitch on do sc only on the back loop, in the next 7, fasten off and cut yarn.
Head
1) Start with a magic circle / magic ring. Do 8 sc into the ring [total 8]
2) Inc all around [total 16]
3) (Sc, inc) - 8X [total 24]
4) (Sc, inc, sc) - 8X [total 32]
5) (Sc next 3, inc) - 8X [total 40]
6) (Sc next 2, inc, sc next 2) - 8X [total 48]
7) - 14) Sc all around [total 48]
This is the time I sew on the eyes, eye lashes, horn and ears. (optional, you can also start assembling after the head is done) - refer to video.
15) (Sc next 2, do a 2together (dec), sc next 2) - 8X [total 40]
16) ( Sc next 3, dec) - 8X [total 32]
17) (Sc, dec, sc) - 8X [total 24]
18) (Sc, dec) - 8X [total 16]
19) Dec all around [total 8]
Leave some tail, cut yarn and seal the hole with a tapestry needle, sew on all the front loop and pull.
