I made this sunflower for a bag, to sew it on the front of a bag. So there will be no green part of the flower. Only the core and the petals.
The tutorial video :
The Core Of The Flower (the middle part)
1) Chain (ch) 4, join into a circle with a slip stitch (sl st)
2) Ch 2, make 11 double crochet (dc) into the circle
3) Ch 1, turn (work on the back) on the same stitch, make 1 single crochet (sc), 1 triple crochet (tc), 1 sc
this is one set, repeat another 12 sets, end with a sl st to the ch 1.
4) Ch1, (sc,tc,sc), sc on the next stitch, skip the bump - repeat all around
5) Ch1, (sc,tc,sc), sc in next 2, skip the bump - repeat all around
6) Ch1, (sc,tc,sc), sc in next 3, skip the bump - repeat all around
7) Ch 3, turn (work on the front) skip the bump, ch 3 and sl st on front loop all around except for bump area
8) Now do sc all around on the remaining back loop
The small petal (will have 20 petals)
1) Use only the front loop, yarn over one of the stitch and chain 10, add a maker on the stitch right below the hook, turn
2) Start from 2nd chain from hook, do sl st on the next 9 stitches.
3) Sl st to the next stitch on the front loop
4) Ch1, turn, sc in next 2, dc in next 4, hdc, sc, sl st, sl st on the marker stitch, sl st again on the same spot, sc, hdc, dc in the next 4, sc in next 2 and sl st to the next stitch on the front loop - this is one petal
The big petal (will have 12 petals)
1) This time use the back loop, yarn over one of the back loop and ch 13, turn
2) Add a marker on the stitch right below the hook
3) Sl st in next 12 and joint it to the 2nd stitch next to it with a sl st
4) Ch1, turn, sc, hdc, dc in next 7, hdc, sc, sl st, sl st on the marker stitch and sl st again on same spot
5) Sc, hdc, dc in next 7, hdc, sc and connect to the back loop part with a sl st, make 2 more sl st before starting a new petal
For better understanding, refer to the tutorial video. It is easy to follow, even for beginners. Give it a try.
