Crochet Cap

This is a simple cap crochet using 5 ply cotton yarn and a 3.5 mm hook.

The tutorial video :

Cap Pattern

Start with a magic ring. Do a single crochet (sc) in the ring, chain 1, put hook thru the previous sc and make a sc on top of it. (Refer to video). This replace the normal chain 3 that we do to start a round of double crochet (dc). I will call this a 'special dc' or sdc. Do this at the start of every row from now on unless that row is just sc all around. It counts as a dc.

1) In the magic ring, do 12 dc     [total 12]

2) Do 2 dc in each stitch (dc inc) - 12X     [total 24]

3) (Dc, inc) - 12X     [total 36]

4) (Dc next 2, inc) - 12X     [total 48]

5) (Dc next 3, inc) - 12X     [total 60]

6) (Dc next 2, inc, dc next 2) - 12X     [total 72]

7) (Dc next 5, inc) - 12X     [total 84]

Depending on the type of yarn and hook size, you might stop at a few rows earlier or do a few more rows base on the increase pattern above. First you have to measure the circumference of the head. Take that number and divide it by 6.3 and later times 2. This would give you the diameter of the circle above. Measure from one side to the other and see if you have that number. You should stop at the row that shows 1 inch smaller than your actual diameter.

Does not matter which row you stop, now divide the circle into 3 parts. (Refer to video). From where we stop, count to the 1/3 of the circle and add a marker. Add another marker to the next 1/3. So now we only have 2 marker and the starting point is at the top of this 2 marker point (refer to video).

Here on the increase (inc) or decrease (dec) that I mention below is for that 1/3 part of the cap, the shorter part between 2 marker. The 2/3 of the circle, just do dc all around.

1) At 1st marker, do (dc inc, dc next 2) - repeat until the 2nd marker, the rest are dc all around

2) At 1st marker, do dc all around until 2nd marker and the rest of the circle.

3) At 1st marker, do (dc inc, dc next 3) - repeat until 2nd marker, the rest are dc all around

4) At 1st marker, do dc all around until 2nd marker and the rest of the circle.

5) At 1st marker, do (dc inc, dc next 4) - repeat until 2nd marker and the rest are dc all around

*Try it on your head and if it touch your ear, you can stop. No need to follow exactly the above as you might be making this for a child or someone with a smaller head*

6) At marker, do dc 2together (dec) all the way until 2nd marker, the rest is just dc all around

7) At marker, do dc dec all the way until 2nd marker, the rest is just dc all around

8) Dc all around (the whole circle)

9) Sc all (the whole circle)

Brim

Refer to video to see how to find the mid point of brim. Add maker about 8 stitch away from that mid point. Now you should have 2 marker, one on the left and one on the right from that mid point. I use 2 strand of yarn to crochet the brim.

1) Start from the marker, do (sc inc, sc next 2) - repeat until the other marker. Slip stitch to the next 2 stitch.

2) Chain 1, turn the work, sc until the next marker, slip stitch to the next 2 stitch

3) Chain 1, turn the work. Do (sc inc, sc next 2) - repeat until the other marker. Do a half double crochet in the next stitch, slip stitch to the next 2 stitches.

4) Chain 1, turn the work, sc until the marker, slip stitch to the next 2 stitches.

I stop here as I only want a short brim, you can continue in this manner if you want a wider brim.

Peony Flower

This is a big flower compare to the other crochet flowers. You will need cotton yarn, wire and some flower making green tape. I also added a chop stick, or you can use any wood or metal, to hold the flower as it is quite heavy with so many petals and wire. I used 3 different colors for the whole flower. The tutorial video :   The Core Part (use yellow yarn) 1) Chain 9, do 3 single crochet (sc) in the 2nd stitch from the hook, sc in the next, slip stitch (ss) until the end, which you will have 6 ss all in. Chain 9 and repeat the whole thing, all in 8 sets. 2) Chain 10, 3 sc in the 2nd stitch from hook. Sc in the next and ss in the following stitches until the end of the chain, all in 7 ss. Make 9 sets. 3) Chain 11, 3 sc in the 2nd stitch from the hook. Sc in the next and ss in the following stitches until the end of the chain, all in 8 ss. Make 10 sets. 4) Chain 1, do sc on the next 27 stitches on the base. 5) Chain 1, turn the work, [sc in the next 2, do a 2 together (dec)] - 6 sets,

Tiny Top Hat

This Top Hat is tiny enough for my amigurumi. Preferable black in color but for tutorial video sake, I did a brown one too. I used cotton yarn and a 3 mm hook. It is very easy to make.  The tutorial video : Top Hat 1) Magic ring with 6 single crochet (sc) into ring [total 6] 2) 2 sc in each, all around [total 12] 3) (Sc in next 3, 2 sc in next stitch) repeat all around [total 15] 4) Sc all around (only on back loop) [total 15] 5) - 8) Sc all around [total 15] 9) 2 sc in each stitch, all around the front loop only [total 30] You can cut yarn now, either you leave a long tail for sewing or weave in the tail.  Hope you make lovely hats for your amigurumi. Crochet Mooncake

This is my second crochet mooncake. This pattern is different from my first crochet mooncake. I made two version. One with lace yarn and a 2 mm hook and another with cotton yarn and a 3 mm hook. The lace yarn mooncake is smaller than the cotton yarn mooncake due to the size of the yarn and hook yet both are equally lovely and look quite like the real thing. The tutorial video :  Mooncake (make 2 - top piece and bottom piece) 1) Start with a magic ring. Make 8 single crochet (sc) into the ring     [total 8] 2) Make 2 sc into each stitch (inc)     [total 16] 3) (Sc, inc) - 8X only on the back loop     [total 24] - If bottom piece, no need back loop only 4) (Sc, inc, sc) - 8X     [total 37] 5) (Sc next 3, inc) - 8X  only on the back loop     [total 40] - If bottom piece, no need back loop only 6) (Sc next 2, inc, sc next 2) - 8X     [total 48] 7) (Sc, half double crochet (hdc) next 2, 2 double crochet (dc) in the same stitch, hdc next 2, sc, slip stitch) - 6X After complete the top piece,
