Auntie Nat's Crochet (Free Crochet Pattern)

 This is a simple bag for handphone or and pau packet. Since Chinese New Year is around the corner, I made it red in color with a lion head sewed in front. The lion head (lion dance head) is in the earlier post.  The tutorial video :  Bag Pattern I start by making a foundation chain of 65 +1. Turn the work. (Slip stitch next 5 stitch, half double crochet next 5 stitch) - repeat until the end, chain 1 and turn the work and continue. On top of the previous slip stitch do half double crochet, on top of the previous half double crochet do slip stitch.  Continue to the length that you prefer. In my case I measure against an ang pau packet and my handphone. Once you have the desire length, fold it in two and sew the sides and sew a bag strap.  This is a simple bag strap. It is just half double crochet on the back loop only. Start a foundation chain to the length that you want.  This post is about the body. The head is in the earlier post. It is just a simple pattern, make into rectangular shape and sew it on the head of the lion dance. This makes a lovely miniature lion dance as a decorative piece. Tutorial video :  The Pattern This pattern need to be in a multiple of 5 plus 1. Depending how wide and how long you want it to be. I did a chain 50. Chain 1, slip stitch in the next 5 stitch, half double crochet in the next 5. Repeat until the end of the row.  Row 2, if you end with slip stitch in the previous row, then chain 2 and do half double crochet on top of those slip stitch. Do slip stitch on top of the previous half double crochet. If you end with a half double crochet, next row, start with chain 1, do slip stitch on top of those double crochet.  Sew it on the head and add fluffy yarn or velvet yarn, on the edge all around and a tiny tail.  This cute lion dance head looks complicated but is actually quite simple and easy to do. I used 4 ply cotton yarn, fluffy yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. You can use other type of cotton yarn and hook size. The head will turn out either slightly bigger or smaller. You will also need some stuffing. The tutorial video :  Nose - make 2 - use the same color as the head 1) Start with a magic circle / ring. Make 6 single crochet (sc) into the ring     [total 6] 2) Sc all around     [total 6]. Slip stitch to the next stitch, fasten it, leave a tail for sewing and cut yarn. Sew some golden thread around the nose (optional) Horn - use the same color as the head 1) Start with a magic circle / ring. Do 6 sc into the ring.     [total 6] 2) Sc all around     [total 6] 3) (Sc, do 2 sc into the same stitch in the next (inc)) - 3X     [total 9] 4) - 5) Sc all around     [total 9] Sew some golden threads around the horn (optional) Eyes 1) Use black or dark brown yarn.  This lovely pot of plant is easy to crochet. The leaves, if you can, get a multi-colored green yarn, and it would make it look more realistic. I used cotton yarn, some stuffing and a pair of safety eyes. I crochet with a 4 mm hook.   The tutorial video :  Soil  1) Start with a magic ring.
